Prepare for heartbreaking scenes in EastEnders next week, as yes, it turns out those Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) death rumours were true. 

The BBC soap is set to kill off the legendary character when her mum Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) finds her lifeless body. 

And despite fan debate about how the character – who first appeared on our screens back in 2000 – will exit, the fallout from her death will prove devastating for her loved ones, especially Kat. 

Forthcoming scenes see Zoe get into an altercation with a man when she tries to buy the black cab formerly owned by her grandfather Charlie Slater (Derek Martin), during which she hits her head. 

Kat and Zoe later get into a huge row after Zoe steals the taxi and the intimidating owner comes looking for her at The Vic, making demands for cash. 

While it remains to be seen if the mother and daughter’s final exchange will be a fraught one, when we return to Walford on Monday, it’s the following morning, and Kat is stunned when she finds Zoe dead. 

Shocked and desperate, Kat tries to keep the earth-shattering discovery to herself, but it isn’t long before her husband Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) learns the truth, leaving the family stunned.

Meanwhile, over the Square at No.31, Jean Slater (Gillian Wright), Mo Harris (Laila Morse) and Lily Slater (Lillia Turner) are preparing to move out after being evicted by landlord Suki Panesar-Unwin (Balvinder Sopal) over their rent arrears.

But as they head to The Vic to begin living with the Moons, their excitement at their new chapter evaporates when they also learn about Zoe. 

Together, the family try to make sense of events, but a distraught Kat locks herself away. 

Later, she finds comfort from a conversation she has with Oscar Branning (Pierre Counihan-Moullier), who discusses how the death of his sister Abi Branning (Lorna Fitzgerald) in 2018 affected his mum Tanya Branning (Jo Joyner). 

However, her grief suffers a setback when she returns home to find the family holding a vigil for Zoe in her bedroom. Furious, she orders them all to leave and upsets Alfie as she continues to shut him out. 

Later in the week, the results of Zoe’s post-mortem are delivered, leaving Kat reeling and in search of answers. 

Having experienced the loss of a child herself, Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) reaches out to Kat as she tries to offer comfort and advice. 

She suggests they should ask local copper Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) to do some digging, but Kat is then shocked by what new evidence uncovers…

Elsewhere, news of Zoe’s passing shocks the residents of Walford, but it particularly affects the last individual who saw her alive…
