Sir Tom Jones has been stood down as a full-time coach on The Voice UK after more than a decade on the hit ITV show.
The 86-year-old music legend has appeared on the programme since it launched in 2012 but will not have his own team or red chair when the next series begins filming.
ITV bosses are understood to want a major shake-up of the coaching line-up, with plans instead being discussed for Sir Tom to return in a different capacity.
A source told The Sun: ‘ITV absolutely love Sir Tom and they’re working very hard behind the scenes to make this work.’
Another source said there had been a feeling that the new series needed ‘a major refresh’.
‘Everyone loves Sir Tom but there was a feeling that the upcoming series needed a major refresh,’ they said.
‘With Aitch and Cheryl coming on board and Kelly returning with will.i.am, there just wasn’t a seat going.’
Sir Tom is said to be disappointed to lose his regular role but remains keen to be involved with the programme and its search for new talent.
A source added: ‘Everyone is sad to see Tom go. Right now talks are ongoing about how he can be involved in the series in a smaller capacity.
‘Sir Tom adores the show and finding new talent and still wanted to be involved.’
