I’m a creature of habit when it comes to foundation. In fact, persuading me to stray from the formulas I’ve relied on for years is usually a losing battle.
This summer, I’ve become completely obsessed with skin tints. When temperatures start creeping into uncomfortable territory, the last thing I want is a thick, heavy base sitting on my face. I much prefer lightweight products that let my skin breathe and still look like skin. The full-coverage formulas that dominate TikTok and Instagram? The ones that seem to require half a bottle per application? Not for me.

Usually I’d lean towards something dewier, but if there’s one person I trust when it comes to complexion products, it’s Rihanna. After all, she practically rewrote the beauty rulebook when Fenty Beauty launched its now-famous inclusive shade range.
Fast forward a month, and I can confidently say that Pro Filt’r Fluid Flex Natural Matte Longwear Foundation has become my latest beauty hyperfixation.
That’s not a statement I make lightly.
Developed over almost three years and available in 50 newly reformulated shades, the foundation promises medium, buildable coverage with a skin-like natural matte finish that moves with your skin rather than sitting on top of it. According to Fenty, the formula is ‘engineered to resist oxidation, humidity, sweat and transfer while remaining breathable and comfortable.’
Marketing claims aside, what matters most is how it performs in real life and, honestly, it’s one of the most impressive foundations I’ve tested in years.
The first thing I noticed was how little product I actually needed. One pump is more than enough for my entire face, and even then I’m not using the full amount. The coverage effortlessly evens out redness and softens the appearance of blemishes, but unlike many long-wear foundations, it never erases the character of my skin.
My freckles still peek through. My complexion still looks natural. I still look like me.
Somehow, Fenty has managed to strike a balance that many brands claim to achieve but very few actually do. The finish is matte, yes, but not flat. My skin looks hydrated and healthy rather than shine-free to the point of looking lifeless. There’s a subtle radiance that comes through without tipping into greasy territory.
Most impressively, I genuinely forget I’m wearing it.
Even after a full day of commuting, sitting in an office with questionable air conditioning and inevitably touching my face more times than I should, it stays put remarkably well. I’ve experienced no patchiness around the nose, no separation on my chin and very little fading by the end of the day.
For someone who usually reaches for a mirror and powder by mid-afternoon, that’s quite the achievement.
I’ve also enjoyed experimenting with the formula. On days when I want the lightest possible coverage, I’ve mixed a small amount with a milky toner before applying it. It creates an almost skin-tint effect while maintaining the longevity and smoothing benefits of the foundation. If I need a little extra coverage, I’ll simply tap a bit more onto specific areas rather than applying another full layer.
It’s versatile in a way that suits how people actually wear makeup.
And while I appreciate the science behind the formula, from the breathable polymer technology to the long-wear pigments and oil-controlling starfruit extract, what ultimately matters is simple: it makes my skin look great.
I know I get excited about beauty launches. After 13 years of testing products, you’d think I’d be harder to impress. Yet every so often something comes along that genuinely earns a permanent place in my daily routine, and this is one of those products.
