David Moyes has confirmed Everton are looking at a number of free agents amid reports the club could sign former Manchester United forward Anthony Martial.

The summer transfer window has closed but Moyes is far from happy with the business Everton have done, which has left Thierno Barry as the only senior striker at the club.

The Toffees looked set to bolster their attacking options on deadline day, with deals agreed for Tottenham’s Richarlison and Monaco’s Folarin Balogun.

But both transfers collapsed at the eleventh hour, Beto departed to Fiorentina, and a last minute attempt to sign Joshua Zirkzee on loan was rejected by United.

Everton take on the Red Devils at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday but Moyes has just 18 senior outfield players at his disposal for what could be a very tough Premier League season.

But though deadline day has passed, there is a still a chance the Toffees could add to their squad, with talkSPORT reporting that Martial has been ‘offered’ to the Merseyside club.

The France international is currently a free agent after leaving Mexican side Monterrey in June and has plenty of Premier League experience after spending nine years at Old Trafford.

It is said the 30-year-old is open to returning to England, and Moyes is not ruling out the possibility of signing a free agent or two.

‘I’m disappointed we didn’t do more business and that things didn’t go our way in the end,’ the Scottish manager said in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

‘But sometimes in football, you have to live with disappointments and we will move on.

‘We’re looking at the free agents’ market but I want a team that can be at the top end and can challenge. The disappointment would be that I want to keep pushing on and for the players to believe we’re going in the right direction.’

United made Martial the most expensive teenager in the world when he signed from Monaco in 2015 and the Golden Boy winner would go on to score 90 goals in 317 appearances across all competitions.

He lifted the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League, but despite some prolific seasons, his time in Manchester was blighted by injuries and he never truly lived up to the hype.

After leaving Old Trafford in 2024, he made a surprise move to Greek club AEK Athens before joining Monterrey, but after only scoring once in 20 games, his contract was ended by mutual consent.

In addition to Martial, Everton have also been linked with Leicester City legend and Premier League icon Jamie Vardy, now a free agent after leaving Italian side Cremonese.
