The jaws of Emmerdale viewers all across the nation no doubt dropped as the culprit who ran Jimmy King (Nick Miles) off the road and straight to his death was revealed – and it wasn’t Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham).

Jimmy met a devastating end last week when he was forced to swerve to avoid an oncoming vehicle, crashing into the marquee where Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) was set to marry Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley).

In addition to Jimmy, Dawn died in emotional scenes just hours after giving birth to her newborn son. Gabby has been riddled with guilt in the aftermath, with viewers coming to suspect that she was the other driver in question.

But an unexpected twist at the end of tonight’s episode confirmed otherwise, with Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) unveiled as the culprit in question.

It was revealed that Gabby had video-called Vinny to complain about her life. Vinny took his eyes off the road and thus didn’t see Jimmy’s car until it was too late – by the time he realised what was transpiring, Jimmy had swiftly attempted to move out of the way crashing into the marquee.

Elsewhere, Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) was left reeling when Sadie (Patsy Kensit) presented her with photos that seemed to back up her claims that Jimmy was living a double life with her.

A separate flashback of Jimmy on the phone to Sadie appeared to confirm such a thing as well. Devastated, Nicola took to the booze – and kissed Kev Barton (Chris Coghill)!

For a first look at what’s to come in tomorrow’s visit to the village, we’ve got you covered.

What happens next in Emmerdale? Spoilers for Friday, September 4 episode

Nicola will continue to fall apart in the wake of Sadie’s claims as she attempts to come to terms with the possibility that Jimmy had betrayed her in the worst possible way.

What’s more, the fact that she kissed Kev will no doubt weigh heavily on her mind, especially so soon after losing Jimmy.

Vinny, meanwhile, lied to Gabby about his role in what happened to Jimmy and thus he will carry the guilt of what he did on his own. But will he follow through on his plans to come clean to Nicola?

That remains to be seen but in the meantime he decides to open up to Kev. However, Kev’s reaction leaves Vinny reeling and he comes to regret that he trusted him enough to confide in him.

Will Kev keep shtum?

Kev has grown quite close to Nicola in recent weeks so carrying the weight of knowing who was to blame for Jimmy’s death could prove difficult for him.

Vinny, meanwhile, is thought to be leaving after reports earlier this year suggested star Bradley Johnson was set to exit Emmerdale. Could this lead to his exit story?

Elsewhere, it’s the day of Doctor Todd (Caroline Harker) funeral and Sarah’s guilt spikes. Charity attempts to hold everything together, suggesting a family meal but DS Thea Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) arrives, revealing anomalies in her statement.

Forensics undermine Charity’s account of what transpired and thus she’s escorted to the station to discuss further.

Sarah, meanwhile, struggles to keep quiet which leaves Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) on edge, worried Sarah will end up behind bars as well as her gran.

Emmerdale airs these scenes Friday, September 4 at 8pm on ITV1 or stream from 7am on ITVX or YouTube.
