The M&S bakery is a sacred place for many foodies.

The cookies, in particular, have become a firm favourite and regularly fly off the shelves.

Fans of these might be delighted to hear that the seasonal Gingerbread & White Chocolate ones are back in stores as of today (September 2), but that’s not all.

The retailer has also just added six new savoury treats to the bakery line-up, including one item that could rival the likes of Greggs. 

Yes, that’s right, M&S is now selling sausage rolls.

According to the product description, a seasoned pork filling is wrapped in puff pastry, then warmed in the oven to make it the ‘perfect’ on-the-go lunchtime snack.

Priced at £2.25 each (although some stores are selling for £2.35), the sausage rolls contain RSPCA-assured outdoor-bred British Pork sourced from M&S Select farms, and an all-butter puff pastry.

The retailer claims that ‘no other high street sausage roll even comes close’ to theirs.

But are they really that good? Here’s my honest verdict…

I gave one a try and would say it’s a very traditional sausage roll, like something you’d make at home – and I mean that as a compliment.

The flaky pastry is much more rustic-looking than that of a Greggs sausage roll, and more golden in colour too. It’s very classic in its appearance. 

It’s also quite classic in terms of the taste, though I have to admit I was expecting a bit more from this, something to really make you feel like you’re eating an M&S product, as this honestly could have been from anywhere. Don’t get me wrong, the quality is better than Greggs, but I’d argue it’s nowhere near as good as the one from Gail’s, which is packed full of flavour.

It reminds me of the kind of sausage roll you’d get from an old-school local bakery, which isn’t overly exciting, but hits the spot.

I will also note that when I picked it up in-store just before midday, it wasn’t very warm, so if you’re hoping for a hot lunch, you’ll probably need to give it a whirl in the microwave for about 30 seconds.

Would I buy one again? Maybe, but I don’t think it’ll be my new lunchtime go-to anytime soon.

However, I am tempted to try some of the other new bakery launches…

As well as the sausage roll, there are two new bread sticks (£1.50 each). There’s a Mature Cheddar & Vintage Red Fox Ciabatta Bread Stick, as well as a Nocellara Olive Ciabatta Stick. 

M&S recommends you dip the latter in olive oil and balsamic vinegar as it’s ‘so good’.

Also new is the ‘Nduja & Ricotta Swirl (£2), which sees all-butter croissant dough smothered in smoky, spicy ‘nduja, creamy ricotta, and hot honey, then twisted and baked.

Plus there’s a Tomato & Cheddar Knot (£1.85) combining puff pastry, tomato, sauce, and mature cheddar cheese.

And finally, there’s a veggie alternative to the sausage roll in the Spinach & Feta Roll (£1.85).

The Greek-style snack is said to give the ‘flavours of summer’ and uses all-butter croissant dough, stuffed with feta and spinach, topped with linseeds.

This comes after M&S recently revealed some of its festive products for Christmas 2026. 

The lineup features numerous pistachio goodies, from Pistachio Star Chocolate (£3) and new Pistachio Muddles (£10), to Choc Marks Salted Blond Chocolate Pistachios, Shortbread and Cornflakes Minis (£12).

There’s also the Big Daddy Pistachio Bites in The Big Daddy Advent Calendar (£12) and a Pistachio and Single Origin Chocolate Bombe (£12).

If you’re not a big pistachio fan, never fear, as M&S’s Christmas drop has a sweet treat for everyone.

There’s a new spin on Percy Pigs, which come in at £2 a bag and contain sugar-coated piglets, gingerbread men, stars and Christmas trees. Also new for the 2026 season is the £8 Malt Balls Selection box; a mix of milk, dark, white or blond chocolate crunch malt balls.

If you’re more of a biscuit person, you’re in luck, as the retailer has new biscuit tins for 2026, including the new Spiced Gingerbread Biscuits in a cute M&S truck tin filled with gingerbread people (£6) and the Chocolate Chunk Cookie Lenticular Tin in a naughty or nice elf design (£5).

Shoppers can also get their hands on a few returning favourites, such as Playful Penguins, priced at £5.
