As beautiful as the village may be, Emmerdale is a really, really dangerous place to live.

In 2026 alone, we’ve lost seven villagers: there’s been three murders, a manslaughter, the putting down of a beloved family pet and two victims of an accidental car wreck.

The pure evil Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths) was murdered by her son, Ray Walters (Joe Absolom), who was, in turn, offed by a victim of their truly heinous operation, Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards), finally freeing the grip their dark operation had the village trapped in.

Elsewhere, unhinged medic and burgeoning serial killer, John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) was killed by his sister, Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins), while rapist Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) met a violent end after a confrontation with Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) turned fatal.

In a much less dramatic – but no less emotional – exit, Monty, the Dingle family dog, was put down after it was discovered he had cancer.

Most recently, Jimmy King (Nick Miles) and Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) died after Jimmy’s brutal collision with Dawn’s wedding marquee.

As the grave yard in the village continues to swell, keep your eye on our handy guide to the pile of corpses accumulating in the Yorkshire Dales!

Celia Daniels

After bringing establishing the village as a base for her sprawling criminal empire and ensnaring various villagers in her prostitution, modern slavery and drug and human trafficking, Celia died when she was stabbed by her adopted son Ray, chillingly declaring her pride in him with her last breath.

Ray Walters

Unfortunately, Ray didn’t survive long enough to escape the dark life Celia had created for him before his own crimes caught up with him. As he looked to murder Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) and Dylan Penders (Fred Kettle), he was strangled to death by Bear, who he’d previously enslaved.

John Sugden

Crazed medic John lied, manipulated and even killed during his reign of terror in the village, but met his final end during ITV’s huge Corriedale event at the hands of his sister, Victoria, who injected him with his own syringe, killing him.

Doctor Todd

Initially introduced as a vile workplace bully, Todd quickly revealed her true, even darker colours, when she launched a vicious blackmail campaign against Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), before raping her. When Sarah learned the truth, she shoved Todd, who’s head collided with a table, causing her death.

Monty the dog

In what may be the most heartbreaking death on this list, the Dingle family dog, Monty, died in August after being diagnosed with cancer. The loyal family pooch’s health deteriorated quickly, and the storyline assisted in how Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) viewed his own cancer diagnosis, with the family ultimately having Monty put to sleep when his cancer proved untreatable.

Jimmy King

After 22 years, the last standing member of the original King family, Jimmy, died when he crashed his car into the marquee, set up for the the wedding of Dawn and Joe Tate (Ned Porteous). Sustaining severe injuries, his wife, Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler), rushed to his side as he sadly passed away.

Dawn Taylor

As what was supposed to be the happiest day of her life descended into sheer chaos, Dawn and Joe were both knocked unconscious as a result of Jimmy’s collision. Though they both survived the explosion that happened moments later and it seemed they might get their happily ever after, Dawn died in hospital after giving birth to her son.
