A major €7.5 million investment has been announced for a new community centre and amenity park in Laytown and Bettystown.
Local TD and Minister Thomas Byrne has welcomed the funding, saying the project will deliver much-needed community and recreational facilities for the rapidly growing East Meath area.
Plans include a 2,000-square-metre community building featuring community rooms, a café, a full-size multi-purpose basketball court, changing facilities and public amenities.
The development will also include a recreational park, children’s play areas, a skate park, BMX and cycling facilities, sports courts, an outdoor classroom and a community orchard.
Minister Byrne described the announcement as “fantastic news” for Laytown, Bettystown and the wider East Meath community.
“This major €7.5 million Government investment will help deliver the modern community facilities that this rapidly growing area needs and deserves,” he said.
“This will be a transformative project for the entire community, providing a welcoming place where people of every age can meet, exercise, learn and participate in local life.”
Minister Byrne said he had consistently advocated for greater Government investment in East Meath and described the funding as a significant development for the area.
“By working hard in Government, we are delivering real results and tangible improvements in people’s lives,” he said.
“I commend Meath County Council and everyone who has helped to advance this ambitious project. I will continue working with all involved to ensure that it progresses and is delivered for the people of Laytown Bettystown and the surrounding area.”
