Transition Year (TY) students all over Ireland are being urged to “get involved” and “get creative” by organising coffee mornings to raise money for Together for Hospice.
The charity represents 24 groups providing palliative care for terminally ill patients across Ireland.
The TY Coffee Morning blitz is a fundraising intiative which contributes to the construction of new facilities, refurbishment of existing buildings and the provision of innovative support to patients and families.
It will take place across the country over the next two months as part of the fundraising drive for ‘Irelands Biggest coffee morning for Hospice’.
Ireland’s Biggest Coffee Morning for Hospice is the main annual fundraiser for hospice and home care services nationwide.
Celebrity chef and Ballyknocken cookey school owner, Catherine Fulvio is playing a key part in the fundrasing drive.
Ms Fulvio kicked of the TY Coffee Morning blitz with TY students Ruth Connolly from Dominican College, Co Wicklow and Saoirse Lavery from Loreto Bray, Co Wicklow.
Ms Fulvio called on TY students to, “put their barista, baking and planning skills to the test.”
Speaking at her Ballyknocken Cookery School in Co Wicklow, she said: “I have seen first-hand, the incredible work that hospices do to serve our communities and to look after patients with life-limiting conditions, and their families.
“So we’re urging Transition Year classes everywhere to get involved, host a coffee morning and raise crucial funds to support the often unseen work hospices and homecare services carry out every day.”
Ms fulvio encouraged students to think outside the box when organising their events.
“It’s an opportunity to get creative; have a cupcake decorating competition, bake sale, raffle or community coffee morning.” she said.
“You can even host a bake-off or experiment with iced-coffee, using your Transition Year skills to give back to your local community.”
TY classes have the chance to hold their coffee morning and return donations up until November 12.
Once classes send in their donations, they can enter a draw to win €1,000 cash, plus two free places on Catherine’s 13-week online cookery course.
Students interested in participating can register their class at hospicecoffeemorning.ie.
Once a class has registered they will receive posters to display in your school, collection boxes and a welcome pack with fundraising tips and print outs.
