Sligo Pétanque Club were host to elite Pétanque players in Ireland at Mitchell Curley Park last weekend for the Celtic Challenge Qualifier where six teams were vying for three places in the Celtic Challenge in Wales in 2027.
Teams from Longford, Mayo and Sligo participated in a separate doubles competition.
Cathaoirleach Cllr Dara Mulvey was present to present the medals to the winners in the doubles competition.
Cathaoirleach Cllr Dara Mulvey was also photographed with the Irish team who will be travelling to Thailand in November.
Cllr Fergal Nealon and Deirdre Lavin from Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership attended, while organisers praised Philip Harrison and his team in Parks at Sligo County Council for how well Mitchell Curley Park looked on the day.
The success of the day is down to the members of Sligo Pétanque Club who worked on marking out pistes, catering and making everyone feel so welcome.
Sligo Petanque Club are very grateful to Leader who provided them with a grant to get a container moved closer to the pistes which really benefits the club.
