The grief of children who lose a brother or sister can often be overlooked as families struggle to cope with the death of a child, a bereavement support organisation has warned.
Anam Cara is to hold an online information evening to help parents understand and support surviving siblings as they navigate their loss.
Anam Cara CEO Michelle Reynolds said: “When a child dies, the impact is felt across the whole family, yet the grief of brothers and sisters can often be less visible or understood.
“Brothers and sisters have lost someone who was woven into their childhood, their family and their sense of who they are.”
She added: “We want bereaved siblings to know that their loss matters, and that they too deserve to feel seen, understood and supported.”
The evening will feature Anna May, founder of the UK’s Student Grief Network, and Michelle Hartnett, a senior play therapist with LauraLynn Children’s Hospice.
The Supporting Surviving Siblings event will take place on Tuesday, September 15, at 7pm and parents can register for the online event through Anam Cara.
