Wexford Tidy Towns, in partnership with Community Foundation Ireland, will host a free, family-friendly Bat Walk later this month as part of the group’s ongoing Biodiversity Action Plan.
The free event, which will take place on September 16 at 7.30pm will be led by ecologist Faith Wilson, who will guide participants through the basics of bat behaviour and habitat while exploring the local area after dark.
Attendees will meet at the Westgate Heritage Tower at Selskar Abbey before walking on to Redmond Park.
The bat walk is open to all ages and no registration is required. Organisers are encouraging families, nature enthusiasts and members of the public with an interest in local wildlife to come along and take part.
Bats play a vital role in Ireland’s ecosystems, acting as natural pest controllers and serving as indicators of local environmental health. Events such as this form part of a wider effort by Wexford Tidy Towns to raise awareness of biodiversity in the town and to encourage community engagement with the natural environment.
