A Laois GAA club is seeking planning permission for the construction of a spectator stand.

Rathdowney GAA Club is seeking permission from Laois County Council to construct a new roofed spectator stand to the north of the Kelly O’Daly Park club grounds, behind the Showgrounds housing estate and Ossory Terrace.

The stand is proposed to be 255m², with standing and seating areas. The plans show a ramp for wheelchair access, and two accessible seats.

Clear sheets are proposed for the sides of the stand, to allow for better viewing.

Plans also show that the stand will not encroach on the right of way behind the stand, parallel to the housing estate.

Kelly O’Daly Park has hosted many County Finals, Leinster Club Championship and Inter-County matches. The grounds are also shared by St Brigid’s Camogie Club.

Rathdowney/Errill GAA Club’s planning application was submitted on September 4, with a decision due by October 10.
