Cork will host this year’s hurling and camogie shinty internationals, with SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh confirmed as the venue for a double-header on October 24.
The women’s camogie international will throw in at 4pm, with the men’s hurling-shinty clash following at 6pm.
Selectors on both sides of the Irish Sea are expected to finalise their 19-player squads in the coming weeks.
Announcing the fixture, GAA president Jarlath Burns highlighted the significance of the longstanding sporting and cultural links between Ireland and Scotland.
“Our shared history and our shared culture with our closest neighbours in Scotland is something that is worthy of celebration,” he said.
“To be able to do this while offering some of our finest players the chance to wear a national jersey and represent their country is very special. I know it is an honour highly valued by all of those fortunate to have the opportunity.”
Camogie Association president Brian Molloy described the inclusion of the women’s international game on the same bill as “a powerful statement about the strength of female sport”.
“There is something very special about pulling on the jersey of your country, and I look forward to seeing an Irish international camogie team represent Ireland on home soil,” he said.
Ronald Ross, National Development Manager of the Camanachd Association, welcomed the continuation of the cross-channel partnership.
“We are delighted to reaffirm our partnership with the GAA and our colleagues in Camogie and the Women’s Camanachd Association, allowing our shared Celtic sports to once again be showcased on the international stage,” he said.
“SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh is a fantastic venue for these matches.”
