This is the second car theft in Co Kildare in recent days
A car stolen from a house in Co Kildare was later involved in a crash in Dublin.
Gardaí are investigating a car theft from a residential property in Leixlip, Co Kildare shortly before midnight on Thursday, September 3.
After it was stolen from the home in Leixlip, the car then reappeared in Dublin the next day when it was involved in a road traffic collision in the Santry area on Friday, September 4 and then “destroyed”.
In a statement, gardaí said their investigations into the theft are ongoing at this time.
“Gardaí are investigating a car theft from a residential property in Leixlip shortly before midnight on September 3, 2026,” they said.
“The vehicle was subsequently involved in a traffic collision in the Santry area on September 4 and destroyed.
“Investigations are ongoing.”
This is the second car theft in Co Kildare in recent days.
A day before the Leixlip incident, gardaí on patrol responded to reports of an attempted unauthorised taking of a vehicle in the Carragh Court Estate in Naas on Wednesday morning, September 2, shortly before 2.30am.
Gardaí say they encountered a stolen car and signalled for the vehicle to be brought to a stop.
The occupants of the stolen car ignored gardaí and refused to stop. The driver then rammed the stolen car into an official garda patrol vehicle.
None of the officers inside the garda vehicle were injured.
The occupants of the stolen car then fled the scene in the car.
