On the first week of the famous Lisdoonvarna matchmaking festival, a Clare lotto player has made a unique match – in the form of €1 million.
While thousands gathered in the Clare town over the weekend in search of their perfect partnership, one unknowing Banner County lotto player became the newest Irish millionaire.
The winner scooped €1 million in a special ‘Guaranteed Millionaire’ event in the Saturday, September 5, draw with a ticket purchased on the day of the draw at Spar Lisdoonvarna.
Shop owner Megan White was delighted to hear about the win, especially as it landed at such an important time of year for the Clare town.
“What a weekend to become a Lisdoonvarna Lotto winner,” Ms White said. “It’s the first week of the famous match-making festival which the entire community gets involved with.
“There’s a great buzz already amongst the town as the festivities get underway, both with customers and surrounding businesses, and this news is sure to add even more.
“We wish the winner all the very best with their win and hopefully they check their ticket soon.”
The winning numbers in the Saturday, September 5, Lotto draw were: 08, 11, 15, 21, 33, 44 and the bonus was 14.
Saturday night’s ‘Guaranteed Millionaire’ event celebrated the first draw of the enhanced Lotto format which now includes 45 balls.
Every Lotto Plus ticket that won a prize on either of the Lotto Plus One or Lotto Plus Two draws on Saturday night was entered into the special draw. One ticket – the winning Lisdoonvarna ticket – was then selected to win €1 million, in addition to their original prize amount.
As part of the celebratory event, there were further additional prizes up for grabs for Lotto Plus players, which saw 43 winning Lotto Plus tickets selected to win an additional amount of €10,092, on top of their original prize.
In Kilkenny and Limerick, two players matched five numbers and the bonus in the main draw to win €40,215 each. The winning Quick Pick tickets were both purchased on the day of the draw.
“Saturday night was a landmark moment for Lotto as the game’s new changes officially came into play,” National Lottery spokesperson, Sarah Orr, said.
“And with the world-famous Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival underway, one Clare player found the perfect pairing, becoming our newest Lotto Plus millionaire in a special Guaranteed Millionaire draw.
“We’re urging anyone who purchased a Lotto Plus ticket on the day of the draw at Spar Lisdoonvarna in County Clare to check it carefully, as an incredible €1 million prize is waiting to be claimed.
“The celebrations didn’t stop there, with 43 Lotto Plus players nationwide also winning additional prizes of €10,092 each. And that’s still not all. Two Lotto players in Kilkenny and Limerick each landed €40,215 after matching five numbers and the bonus in the main draw.”
Ms Orr said that the biggest winners from Saturday night should sign the back of their tickets and keep them safe before contacting the Prize Claims team on 1800 666 222.
Arrangements will then be made for them to claim their prizes.
