Mayor of Drogheda Declan Power has condemned another incident of illegal dumping in the town, describing it as the second case of fly-tipping at the location in a matter of days.
The Independent councillor hit out at those responsible, particularly as Louth County Council had recently provided a low-cost opportunity for people to dispose of bulky household waste.
“Another disgraceful fly-tipping incident – the second here in a matter of days,” Cllr Power said.
“What makes it worse? Louth County Council provided a €4 disposal option at the V&W Recycling Centre only last week during the mattress and sofa amnesty.
“There’s no excuse for dumping waste in our countryside. It’s disrespectful, illegal, and damaging.”
Cllr Power thanked Louth County Council for responding promptly to the latest incident but said the clean-up represented an unnecessary cost to taxpayers.
“Thanks to Louth County Council for their prompt action and an unnecessary expense to the taxpayers,” he said.
Illegal dumping and fly-tipping continue to cause concern in parts of Drogheda and the surrounding countryside, with discarded household and bulky waste requiring council resources to remove and dispose of safely.
