The fight has become one of most-watched events on Irish television this year

A total of 1.6 million viewers tuned in to watch Katie Taylor’s final fight on RTÉ.

The historic fight on Saturday night at Croke Park saw the Irish boxing legend become a three-time undisputed world champion.

At its peak, 1.6 million viewers tuned in to RTÉ2 to watch Round 10 as Taylor defeated France’s Flora Pili.

The fight has become one of most-watched events on Irish television this year, alongside the World Cup play-off between Ireland and Czechia in March.

In comparison, the most watched programme in Ireland last year was The Late Late Toy Show on RTÉ One with an audience of 1.59 million viewers.

Meanwhile, the second most watched programme in 2025 was The Sunday Game Live – SHCF – Cork v Tipperary on RTÉ2, which drew 995,300 viewers.

The Taylor v Pili showdown drew the average audience of 973,000, which represents 74pc share of the available viewing audience.

Alongside that, over half a million viewers (552,000) streamed the fight on the RTÉ Player.

RTÉ’s director of video, Steve Carson, said: “On a historic Saturday night, Irish audiences came together in huge numbers to celebrate the extraordinary career of an Irish sporting icon.”

“Katie Taylor’s final victory was a national moment that will be remembered for many years to come,” he said.

“RTÉ Sport felt it was important to be able to bring live coverage from Croke Park to viewers and listeners, free-to-air, right across the country,” he added.

It was a historic night for Taylor, who celebrated her final victory in front of a crowd of 83,000 fans in Croke Park in Dublin.

In a post on Instagram, she said: “The last night of my boxing career may well have been my best.”

“A dream ending to an amazing journey. Thank you Ireland for filling Croke Park with your song and your support. I will never forget it,” she added.

She defended her WBO, WBA, IBF and Ring Magazine titles and won the WBC Super Lightweight Championship in the clash against Pili.

Meanwhile, Taylor’s manager, Brian Peters, has revealed that the boxer’s life story is now to be turned into a movie.

She will also tour Ireland next year with her stage show directed by Andrew Flynn and produced by Peters.
