Musician and mental health campaigner Niall “Bressie” Breslin and renowned psychologist Dr Tony Bates will appear at a retreat at the Mulranny Arts in west Mayo this November.
Mr Breslin will join Dr Bates for the final day of the retreat, culminating in The Place That Has Never Been Wounded, a special session featuring live music, reflection, poetry and conversation.
The Place That Has Never Been Wounded is also the title of Mr Breslin’s latest solo album, a collection of piano instrumentals.
Cheryl Cobern Browne, Founder & Mission Director of Mulranny Arts, said she was “genuinely honoured” to welcome Dr Bates and Mr Breslin to the retreat, which runs from Wednesday, November 25 to Sunday, November 29.
“Tony’s work has touched so many people, and the themes at the heart of this experience feel particularly suited to Mulranny, a place where the landscape itself encourages us to slow down, reflect and reconnect,” she said.
Dr Tony Bates is a clinical psychologist, psychotherapist and adjunct professor of psychology at University College Dublin. He is also the founder of Jigsaw, the National Centre for Youth Mental Health.
He served for 30 years as Head of the Department of Psychology at St James’s Hospital, Dublin, and is Patron of the Mindfulness Teachers Association of Ireland and the author of Coming Through Depression: A Mindful Path to Recovery and the memoir Breaking the Heart Open: The Shaping of a Psychologist.
Dr Bates was also a regular guest on Mr Breslin’s podcast, “Where Is My Mind?”, which ran for almost five years before its final episode last May.
