Speeding jeep which refused to stop for Kilkenny gardaí was later found ‘bogged’ in a field

A speeding jeep that evaded capture by gardaí in Co Kilkenny was later found abandoned in a field on Tuesday night.

The driver of a Toyota Land Cruiser was caught speeding at 136kmh in a 100kmh speed zone in Co Kilkenny on Tuesday — 36kmh over the designated speed limit.

Gardaí attempted to stop the driver who refused and took off “at a huge speed” to evade capture.

Later that night, members of the roads policing unit in Kilkenny discovered the Toyota Land Cruiser “bogged” in a field.

The roads policing members seized the vehicle under Section 109a of the Road Traffic Act.

The owner of the vehicle will now have to make an application to the district court for its return.

“The Toyota was detected at a speed of 136kmh in a 100kmh zone and refused to stop for gardaí,” said a Kilkenny garda spokesperson.

“The roads policing members discovered it bogged in a field shortly after witnessing it taking off at a huge speed last night.

“You can explain this one to the judge,” added the spokesperson, addressing the driver.
