Galway City Council is set to carry out improvement works on the link between Bóthar Stiofáin and Gateway Shopping Park, following feedback from local residents.
From 7.30am on Monday, September 7, vehicular access between Bóthar Stiofáin and Gateway Shopping Park will be closed to allow for adjustments to the ramp height at the Lidl junction.
The council and Jons Civil Engineering said the works are being undertaken in response to concerns raised by residents about the height of the ramp.
The closure will remain in place for one week, with works scheduled for completion by 5pm on September 11.
Pedestrian, cyclist and wheeler access will be maintained throughout the works, while access to surrounding businesses will not be affected.
Diversion routes will be signposted via the Western Distributor Road and Rahoon Road. Access to all businesses, schools and homes will be maintained through these alternative routes.
Motorists travelling to Gateway Shopping Park from Rahoon Road are advised to use the junction adjacent to the Gort Gréine estate, while those approaching from the Western Distributor Road should access the area via the An Logán roundabout.
The works form part of the Bóthar Stiofáin Cycle Network Scheme, which received €1.7m in National Transport Authority funding this year and is now entering its final phases.
The scheme is designed to improve connections between residential areas, sports facilities and local businesses. The project remains on schedule for completion by the end of 2026.
