Killarney’s Michael Fassbender could be back on the big screen sooner rather than later, if the latest rumours about the new Alien film are to be believed.
Fassbender (49) starred in both the Ridley Scott-directed films Prometheus and Alien: Covenant – both of which are part of the popular Alien film series – and this week, Scott announced that he was working on script for what would be the third film in the prequel trilogy.
In an interview with the LA Times, Scott revealed that a long-awaited third Alien prequel is in the works. According to Scott, the plan is to get Michael Fassbender back to reprise his role as rogue AI android David in a movie that’d see the soft-spoken but incredibly sinister synth creating “a brave new world for himself.”
Scott, who has long-expressed his distrust and dislike of AI, added that he is keen to explore the concept of malfunctioning artificial intelligence further.
“AIs can go off,” Scott said, adding “And if they do, it’s like a bomb.”
With a few more films already on the 88-year-old’s plate, it remains to be seen however whether these new Alien plans will come to fruition any time soon.
