Major improvement works along the north bank of the Boyne Greenway in Drogheda are set to get underway this month following the completion of a tender process.
A total of €500,000 in Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) funding is supporting the project, which will see a series of upgrades carried out along the popular route.
Plans being finalised by the Capital Delivery Team include the widening, resurfacing and relining of paths along the north bank of the Boyne Greenway, as well as the installation of lighting.
The tender process for the project has now been completed, with Phase One of the works due to commence in September.
The investment is aimed at enhancing and extending the Boyne Greenway and improving facilities for people using the route for walking, leisure cycling and running.
The greenway along the River Boyne has become a popular recreational amenity in Drogheda, providing an off-road route for walkers, runners and cyclists.
The planned improvements are also intended to support the objectives of the Government’s Embracing Ireland’s Outdoors strategy, which seeks to increase participation in outdoor recreation and improve access to outdoor amenities.
