Confirmation from Minister of State Kevin Boxer Moran, that proposed coastal protection works at Strandhill are progressing, with works expected to commence this month, subject to Council approval has been welcomed by Cllr Marie Casserly.
The public consultation process has now concluded, with a report due to be presented at the September Plenary Council meeting.
Cllr Casserly said, “I welcome the progress and the confirmation that works are expected to begin in September. Coastal erosion has been a longstanding concern for the Strandhill community, and it is important that we now see these works progress without unnecessary delay.
“I also welcome the revisions to the OPW funding scheme, including the increase in the upper funding threshold for projects from €750,000 to €2 million. The increase in the OPW contribution from 90% to 95% for approved funding above €300,000 is also a significant development and will provide Sligo County Council with greater capacity to deliver essential coastal protection works at Strandhill.
“These changes will help local authorities progress larger-scale projects and reduce the financial burden on local resources.”
