Drumshallon Forge
We celebrated National Heritage week in style at Drumshallon Heritage Centre with three memorable events. Firstly, on Tuesday evening, as I mentioned last week, we had a very interesting talk by local historian John Mc Cullen about the well known local Smith family from Piperstown.
On Friday morning we hosted our monthly seniors’ tea/coffee get together with an extra special treat for our guests. Local musician Catherine Dillon entertained us with some beautiful music played on the keyboard. This surprise addition to our social gathering was enjoyed by everyone. There was also an exhibition of arts and crafts by the Drumshallon Craft Club. Our guests enjoyed browsing through the many beautiful exhibits created by this talented group, led of course by the wonderful Teresa Dillon. Delighted to say that the Craft Club will resume again in the centre on Tuesday 8th September 11am- 1pm.
On Saturday morning The Monasterboice Tourism and Tidy Towns group enjoyed a leisurely walk at Piperstown followed by welcome refreshments at Drumshallon. They were also treated to a fascinating talk about the history of Drumshallon by Catherine Dillon, assisted by her sister Grace. A poem about Drumshallon, written by The late Tony Callery was also read.
To sum up, Heritage Week at Drumshallon, was a celebration of history, nature, nostalgia, music and crafts, with a little bit of fun added to the mix. Perfect!

Well done to the Senior Ladies who got their Senior Champion Title defence underway with a win over Newtown Blues. The Junior Ladies were also victorious in their match against St. Brides in the Reserve Cup. It wasn’t the desired start to the Men’s Senior Championship for St. Fechin’s with a loss to St. Joseph’s.
