Sheep Show and Sale

Aughrim Sheep Breeders will hold their Annual Show and Sale on Friday, September 5th in Carnew Mart. For further information, contact Alan Kinsella on (087) 2792157/ email [email protected] or Carnew Mart on (053) 9426234.

The presentation Cabaret will take place on the following night, Saturday September 6th in Joe O’Toole’s at 9.30pm. Proceeds to St. Colman’s Hospital.

Macreddin Cemetery Meeting

A meeting of all grave owners and interested parties in Lower Macreddin cemetery will be held on Thursday September 10th at 7.30pm. The meeting will be held in the Aughrim Community Hall (beside Londis).

Lotto

The numbers drawn in Aughrim’s sports club lotto on Monday August 24th were 3, 10, 13 and 22. There was one match three winner: Bernie Keogh. The jackpot is now €3,200. Tickets can be purchased in the local shops and online up to 9pm on the night of the draw. The lotto committee thank you all for your continued support for the local lotto.

Town & Country Market

There are a lot of marketeers with fantastic products and produce offerings, including barista coffee, fresh home-baked cakes, artisan breads and pastries, frittatas and sausage rolls, plus freshly made chutneys and relishes, fresh free-range eggs and home-made marmalade.

We have delicious local honey and wax candles, natural health and wellness products plus hand-crafted cushions, jewellery and cards, handmade clothing for babies, knitting and crocheting products and all the advice you need. Flower arrangements and basket weaver products to beautify homes and work places. All in the beautifully redecorated, wheelchair friendly pavilion.

Take away coffee, hot soups and toasties are available while browsing around the stalls, watching lawn Bowling or strolling around the lake with your dog. The playground is a fantastic place for the little ones while the New to you Thrift shop offers bargains of all kinds for the whole family.

Retirement

We wish Fr Martin Casey PP Carnew the very best of luck on his retirement after 28 years in Carnew and thank him most sincerely for everything. God bless you Fr Casey.

Sympathy

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family and relatives of Jim Roche (buses) Carnew Road Ferns who died recently.

To the family and relatives of Jim Finn, Cooraduff, Kilmyshal who died recently and was buried on Wednesday.

Coffee morning

Venie Kinsella is holding her annual coffee morning on Thursday 17th September from 9am–4pm in Carnew Community Care all proceeds go towards South Wicklow Hospice Homecare.

Lotto

Carnew GAA lotto was not won, numbers were 3,5,11,17, lucky dips were Conor Faulkner and Eileen Redmond, the next draw is 7th September and the jackpot is €6,200, tickets available in local shops or online.

Photography exhibition

Carnew Heritage Club will open a photography exhibition next Sunday August 30th at 7pm in Carnew Community Care.

The exhibition is titled “A Day in the Life of Carnew Heritage Day” and marks the 20th Anniversary of the vintage club. The exhibition will feature photographs from Carnew Heritage Day over the past 20 years, with photographs from various photographers. The exhibition will remain open in the Centre during the Centre’s opening hours. All are welcome to attend.

Heritage Day

Carnew Heritage Day 2026 takes place on Sunday 20th September. The site opposite Carnew Mart will have a large display of vintage cars, tractors, stationary engines and all sorts. A unique attraction for 2026 is a Beet Harvesting display with beet pulling by vintage machinery. Our entertainment section is back with music on the day by Aidan Clerkin and Paddy Treacy.

Carnew Heritage Day is one of the biggest vintage working days in the south east and promises to be a great day out for all the family, with admission only €10 and children free.

Bingo

The next bingo is on Sunday 6th September at 2pm in Carnew mart.

Social Dance

Next Social Dance in Askamore Hall is on Friday 4th September, with music by the great Alex Roe. Doors open at the earlier time of 8.30pm. Dancing at 9pm. Admission €10. Refreshments served. Thanks to Larry, Aaron and crew for all their hard work. Looking forward to seeing you there.

Askamore coffee day

The 10th anniversary coffee day in Askamore community centre, in memory of Mary Walsh, takes place on Sunday 13th September from 10am to 6pm. Proceeds in aid of The Irish Heart Foundation. Special guest on the day with his ice cream van is The Big Noisy 99. Support a great cause have a coffee chat and nice treats on the day.

Tinahely Craft market

Tinahely Craft Market is now open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 4pm.

There is a stunning array of locally made crafts, a selection of quilts and throws made from recycled fabric, gorgeous shawls hand spun and knitted by Marilyn, quirky and fun ceramics from Rose at Clever Cow and Jo’s hand embroidered cards. We are also selling fresh bouquets of flowers from the Flowerfield in Tinahely. And local honey from Hacketstown available in small and large jars. Please come along and support your local makers.

Tinahely Craft Market is situated in the middle of the village opposite the butchers shop.

Leinster Motorcycle Club run

Leinster Classic Motorcycle Club will hold their annual fundraiser event in memory of Caroline, in aid of the LauraLynn Ireland children Hospice, on Sunday 13th September, commencing from the Parkview House, Shillelagh at 9.45am.
