The Portuguese midfielder has never cut it in the Premier League and it is no surprise that Arsenal have cashed in. They paid more than £30m to sign him from Porto in 2022, but he has never come close to justifying the fee. In truth, it’s one of their worst transfers under Mikel Arteta.

Current state of Enzo Fernandez’s possible move to City
Chelsea will hold off sanctioning Enzo Fernández’s move to Manchester City until they are confident of making at least one signing of their own.
The Telegraph reports that Chelsea have already rejected one proposal from City for Fernández during club-to-club talks and are demanding a fee and payment terms that are favourable to them.
Chelsea also have three separate targets of their own as potential deadline signings – Lamine Camara, Manu Kone and one mystery target from the Premier League.
Monaco have already rejected a £38.5m bid from Chelsea for Camara. Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini wants to keep Kone, although negotiations continue. And there is a third target from the Premier League, but not believed to be Morgan Gibbs-White.
Chelsea must make significant progress on one of their targets before they will sanction Fernández’s sale – and City must make another bid that is more favourable to the club.
So, time is running out for both to sort out this situation.Lamine Camara. Valery Hache/Getty Images 60 minutes agoAidan O’Doherty Sunderland have been trying to sign a winger all summer and have finally got their man in Lyon’s Malick Fofana.
Arsenal had been linked with a move for the 21-year-old Belgium international. He was seen as a replacement target if the pursuit of Julian Alvarez didn’t work out. Uh-oh.
Fofana has been given permission to travel to the north-east of England to wrap up a move which would see him sign a contract until 2031.

Kone linked to Chelsea
Plenty of chatter about the future of Roma midfielder Manu Kone, who is linked with a move to Chelsea. The France international would be a strong acquisition for Xabi Alonso, but could his potential signing precede an Enzo Fernández exit? All will be revealed…
Of Kone, former France manager Didier Deschamps said: “He’s very effective at winning the ball back, but he shouldn’t be limited to that role of defensive midfielder, because he also makes a difference in his use of the ball.”

Chelsea striker Marc Guiu joins RB Leipzig for £14.5m
Chelsea striker Marc Guiu has joined RB Leipzig on a five-year deal for £14.5million, bringing to an end a two-year stay at Stamford Bridge.
The 20-year-old joined from Barcelona in 2024 for £5m but struggled to make an impact, making only 11 Premier League appearances and failing to score.
He was loaned to Sunderland at the beginning of last season but was recalled after three appearances to cover injuries in attack, though his game time remained limited in west London.
He joins strikers David Datro Fofana, Nicolas Jackson and Liam Delap in having departed Chelsea during the transfer window.
