Gardai have arrested two drivers caught overtaking on bends and driving at speed in Galway.

The two drivers were spotted by gardai overtaking on double white lines and bends between Kilcolgan and Clarinbridge on Monday, August 31.

They were also detected speeding at over 110kmh entering the village and topping 195kmh on the dual carriageway.

Gardai pulled over both drivers and arrested them on the spot. They will now face court.

An Garda Siochana Galway said: “Two drivers caught overtaking on double white lines and bends between Kilcolgan and Clarinbridge – hitting speeds over 110 kmh entering the village and topping 195 kmh on the dual carriageway.

“Both were stopped, arrested, and are now facing court.”

In August, gardaí carried out a targeted operation in Galway City.

Seven e-scooters were seized, including one from an 11-year-old, Fixed Charge Notices were issued for a range of offences and traffic light offences were among the most common. Use of pedestrianised areas and footpaths was also detected.

One e-scooter tested on a dynamometer was found to be capable of travelling at 74kmh, despite the 20kmh limit.
