A memorial service and celebration of life will take place for 18-year-old Hannah Jane Large, who was killed in a car crash in Iceland earlier this week.
Ms Large, who was raised in Greystones, Co Wicklow, and attended St David’s Holy Faith Secondary School, died after the BMW she was travelling in veered off the road and crashed onto a lava cliff in the early hours of Monday, August 31.
The crash happened shortly after midnight on Krýsuvíkurvegur, around 30km south of Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik. Three people died in the collision, including Ms Large and two Icelandic nationals.
The date for the memorial at Colliers Funeral Home in Bray has yet to be announced. Those attending have been asked to wear bright colours “to remind each other of Hannah’s sparkle”.
A tribute on RIP.ie described Hannah as “a smiling, shining star who lit up the lives of those who were privileged to know and love her.”
“Cherished and adored daughter of Sam and Greg, loving and proud big sister of Samuel, an adored granddaughter and niece, she will be deeply missed by her extended family across the world,” the tribute read.
“Hannah was a devoted and kind friend, and her friends were the centre of her world and she theirs, both here and in Iceland.”

Crash in Iceland
Icelandic authorities are investigating the death of the 18-year-old Irish woman following the crash on Krýsuvíkurvegur.
A spokesperson for the Icelandic police force confirmed the crash took place shortly after midnight on Monday, August 31.
Icelandic news outlet Vísir named the other passengers as 21-year-old Benjamín Guðmundsson and 16-year-old Arndís Halla, who also died in the crash.
Reports have suggested the vehicle was travelling at approximately 200km/h.
It is understood Ms Large may have been working in Iceland over the summer.
Ms Large was travelling with the two Icelandic people when the BMW veered off the road and crashed onto a lava cliff.
Memorial services for the two deceased Icelandic passengers were held on Thursday evening.
Tributes to Hannah
Sam Large, Hannah’s mother, commented underneath President Tómasdóttir’s Facebook post.
“Thank you for the statement. My daughter Hannah from Ireland was one of the victims of this tragedy,” Ms Large wrote.
“She fell in love with your country she loved the people and her last few days were the happiest of her life, that is the only consolation we have and hold onto.
“We spoke to her that night and she was full of Joy. Tragic she leaves her brother and us behind.”
Local councillor Louise Fenelon Gaskin also paid tribute to the deceased.
“She had just finished her Leaving Cert, and it’s just very tragic for the family getting bad news,” she said.
“It’s very sad to get that knock on your door…and to all her friends as well, it was an awful shock.”
A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs said it has been made aware of the case and is providing consular assistance.
