For 250 years, American workers have shown the world time and again that they are the best.
From the transcontinental railroad, the skyscrapers of New York City, the arsenal of democracy that won two world wars, and the tech revolution of the last several decades, every stage of American ingenuity and innovation was made possible because we trusted the hard-working men and women of this country to do what they do best:
Build, create, and innovate, and leave a legacy that their children can be proud of.
LIZ PEEK: THE TRUMP ECONOMY IS DOING BETTER THAN THE MEDIA WANT TO ADMIT
So, this Labor Day, as President Donald Trump’s Acting Secretary of Labor, I want to say thank you.
Thank you for building the homes that we raise our families in.
Thank you for building factories that showed the world the power of industry.
Thank you for building the highways and railroads that tied our communities together.
And thank you for your hard work and perseverance, even as successive generations of governments took you for granted.
Under President Trump’s leadership, I can assure you those days are over. Today, the American Worker is at the center of our nation’s economic agenda and of our industrial revival, because every American should be able to work, raise their children, and worship God in the communities that their parents and grandparents built for them.
Last month the economy added 162,000 jobs, and we’ve created more than 1 million private sector jobs since President Trump took office.
Instead of leaving factories to rot and rust, we are revitalizing communities by building new ones and heralding a new era of American industrial might.
After years of decline, American manufacturing has expanded for eight straight months. The jobs that were lost overseas are coming back and renewing the communities that were left behind, the economy is growing, paychecks are getting bigger, and more Americans are working than at any point in our nation’s history.
But more importantly, we’re sowing the seeds of a historic economic boom. President Trump has secured trillions of dollars in new investments from companies and countries alike.
ONE OF THE WORLD’S HOTTEST INDUSTRIES IS SPARKING A BLUE-COLLAR JOBS BOOM
Manufacturing and construction jobs have grown for three straight months. And we’ve expanded opportunities in the skilled trades through registered apprenticeships, to ensure American workers can find dignified and high-paying careers wherever they choose to live.
Instead of treating the advent of artificial intelligence as an inevitable source of job loss, we are developing training programs for AI integration so that this revolutionary technology becomes a source of job creation, business expansion, and wage growth.
American workers once built the rockets that took us to the moon and made advancements in energy production that our ancestors could only dream of. Today, the American worker is taking the world to Mars, achieving lifesaving advances in medicine, and exploring the very limits of human potential. All because some brilliant and hard-working Americans dedicate themselves to a mission and see it to completion.
At universities across the country there is an army of young Americans working in the STEM fields ready to take on the tech jobs of the future. And in towns and cities across America, there are millions of young Americans who are eager to help build things and feel a rush of pride when they see the sticker that says, “Made in America.”
TRUMP TAPS ACTING LABOR SECRETARY KEITH SONDERLING FOR PERMANENT ROLE PENDING SENATE CONFIRMATION
The greatest privilege of my job as Acting Secretary of Labor is getting to see up close how Americans from Texas to Ohio, to Florida, New Mexico, and beyond, are showing the world that we are a hardworking, devoted, patriotic, and innovative people.
So this Labor Day, I hope all American workers take a moment to pause and reflect on the important work you do for our country.
At President Trump’s Department of Labor we are using Labor Day as an opportunity to recommit ourselves to ensuring that the American worker remains our nation’s greatest asset, and that we are there for them every single day.
Enjoy your Labor Day, and let’s keep working together for the greatest workforce in the world.
