Wearing their distinctive red gowns, the students strolled to the end of the pier, climbed up the ladder and then walked back along the highest part of the wall.

The event on Sunday took place ahead of the Martinmas semester which starts on Monday September 14.

The Pier Walk is one of the oldest traditions at the university and is the first event of the new academic year.

Throughout the rest of the year a pier walk takes place every Sunday after chapel service at St Salvator’s.
