Gardaí have announced a number of traffic measures will be in place during the Amgen Irish Open including the temporarily closure of the N67.

The tournament will take place from September 9 to September 13 at Trump International Golf Links in Doonbeg and will involve what gardaí described as “the largest security operation in the country this year”.

Parking restriction will begin on Tuesday September 8, with no parking availbale in Doonbeg village.

During the turnament there will be no parking available at Trump International Hotel or its environs. Gardaí asked the public to not attempt to park in Cree or along roadways towards Doonbeg as your car will be towed.

The N67 will stay open to traffic until Friday, September 11.

From the time of the closure of the N67, residents attempting to access the security cordon on the left from Doonbeg village to Clohanes will require a garda pass.

Residents looking to access property on the right side from Hayes shop, Doonbeg to Clohanes will require ID and a utility bill with proof of address.

For those travelling to the Clare village to enjoy the golf, entry to the event is strictly through the Park and Ride and/or shuttle buses. An event ticket will be required prior to gaining access to any buses.

Visitors also need a link from Amgen which, gardaí explained, “allows you to pick either the North Park and Ride or the South Park and ride. You give your car registration, and this gives you access to the carpark”.

Motorists are asked to turn off their sat nav and follow the visible messaging signs from AA at all times.

To help locals understand the traffic management plan, there is an information evening planned in Doonbeg Community centre with all the agencies in attendance at 7pm on Thursday, September 3.

Clare County Council has been extensively engaged with Doonbeg Community Development Ltd since the announcement of the Irish Open for Doonbeg to ensure that the village is fully prepared for the event and for the visitors who will attend the tournament.

Among the special events organised around the Irish Open will be the Doonbeg Fáilte Fest in the village.

The local authority is continuing to work with Doonbeg Community Development and gardaí to organise the festival.

The event will run from Friday evening, September 11 to Sunday, September 13, and will include music on the main stage, as well as entertainment for children and families, while the golfing action will be shown on a big TV screen.

Ahead of the tournament, significant improvement works have been carried out by the council throughout the area, including at Lakeview Park, in partnership with Doonbeg Tidy Towns, while there has also been significant investment in the road network in the Doonbeg area.

“The return of the Irish Open to County Clare and the staging of the presents a wonderful opportunity to showcase the county’s stunning scenery, world-class golf facilities and renowned hospitality to audiences both at home and abroad,” Mayor of Clare, Joe Killeen, said.

“I have no doubt that the 2026 Irish Open competition will prove a memorable occasion for players, spectators, and the local communities alike.”
