Westlife have been confirmed as the headline performers for Katie Taylor’s farewell fight at Croke Park this Saturday.
The Irish group will perform as part of the entertainment surrounding Taylor’s final professional bout, including what promises to be an emotional last ring walk for the Bray boxer.
Taylor will take on undefeated French fighter Flora Pili in front of more than 80,000 fans as she bids to end her career as a three-time undisputed world champion.
Westlife said they were “so honoured” to have been asked by Taylor to be part of the night.
“She has inspired the whole country and we couldn’t be prouder to perform for her at Croke Park, a stadium that also means so much to us,” the band said.
Westlife are no strangers to Croke Park, having previously performed six sold-out shows at the Dublin stadium.
The group have sold more than 55 million records worldwide and scored 16 Irish No.1 singles and 14 UK chart-toppers, with hits including Flying Without Wings, Queen of My Heart and You Raise Me Up.
Their appearance comes just days before they begin a record-breaking 13-night residency at Dublin’s 3Arena on 10 September as part of their 25th anniversary celebrations.
Further entertainment acts for Saturday’s event are due to be announced later this week.
Katie Taylor v Flora Pili will be shown live on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player, with live radio commentary on RTÉ 2FM. The event will also be broadcast worldwide on DAZN.
