It’s amazing that Emmerdale’s Kim Tate (Claire King) has any room for all those fabulous ‘boss chic’ jackets in her wardrobe… given the amount of skeletons in there.

Just when she’s lost the closest thing she had to a daughter after  Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) died hours after giving birth to Joe Tate’s (Ned Porteous) baby, the Lady of Home Farm is about to get real thing.

DS Thea Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) has been acting so shifty around Kim that the newcomer copper may as well have been wearing a t-shirt that reads ‘secret vendetta’. Now the cat is about the bag, and we know what Ramsden beef is with Kim – it’s the old long-lost daughter chestnut.

And what a chestnut it is. DS Ramsden is actually a Tate by virtue of Kim’s marriage to Chris Tate (Pater Amory), born and given away not long after Kim escaped in a helicopter after bopping her ex-hubby over the head with a paperweight back in 1999.

Obviously, no secrets stay buried in the Dales. With Kim’s maternal reveal imminent, actress Claire King, who plays the Emmerdale legend, teases her character’s reaction.

‘I think Kim’s just got this feeling that this woman, this DS Ramsden, has got it in for her. Certain people, Kim thinks, “This woman doesn’t like me, for some reason…” She wants to find out why. Has she done something? Why is she gunning for her? But obviously doesn’t realise the truth. But she does suspect that this woman is going for her, and is very surprised when she’s arrested, because she actually has nothing to do with it, for once! She’s really blindsided by it.’

‘To a certain extent, she always says, “I’d never have forgotten you, blah blah blah…” but I think she really wanted to just wipe it out of her brain, because she thought she was giving her to a good home, that she was happy. It was down to her daughter, Thea, to find her because she had no idea where she was. And I think she’s put it in the back of her mind.’

Now the fruit of Kim Tate’s loins is running amok in Emmerdale, fans are clamoring for the return of Jamie Tate (Alexander Lincoln), the established son of Kim and her late husband Frank Tate (Norman Bowler). The once good vet initially started life in the Dales seeking to distance himself from his family’s toxic legacy and his mother’s controlling behavior.

Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for the Tate genes to kick in, and Jamie was soon up to his neck in an explosive affair, a dramatic hit-and-run that nearly killed Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) and an attempted poisoning on his own mother.

The last time viewers saw Jamie, it was back in In November 2021, when the twisted Tate to cut Kim’s apron strings for good.

In light of the Thea revelations with reports of Jamie’s death being greatly exaggerated, could a Tate family reunion be on the cards. Claire King is certainly rooting for it.

‘I think it’d be lovely to have all the kids together’, she insists ‘but it would be absolute carnage!’

What about more Tates? Now that Dawn’s gone, do we need even more posh villains running about Home Farm? Claire is absolutely for it.

‘I think it’s great.’ She enthuses. ‘I think we need them. We’re outnumbered by Dingles! We need more Tates. And every now and then, they keep whipping one away! Will went, Dawn’s gone. Okay, Graham (Andrew Scarborough) went but he’s back.’

‘I get a lot of people asking me, because I’ve mentioned my mother and a sister, and I know I’d love to have someone like Amanda Barry or Stephanie Beacham because it would just be bonkers. And I’ve worked with them both, so I know how they work!’

Emmerdale bosses, if you’re reading this article, do what this woman says. Do it now.
