One of Dundalk’s best known public spaces has been given a fresh new look following the completion of “enhancement” works at The Demesne.

The project included the installation of a solar-powered litter bin, age-friendly seating, footpath improvements and landscaping works to enhance accessibility, comfort and the overall appearance of the area.

The works were completed by Louth County Council in collaboration with Dundalk Tidy Towns as part of a scheme to improve the town centre public space for residents and visitors.

Cathaoirleach of Dundalk Municipal District, Cllr Andrea McKevitt, welcomed the completion of the works saying:

“The Demesne is a valuable public amenity in the heart of our town. These improvements make the space more accessible, safer and more welcoming for everyone who uses it. Projects like this encourage people to spend more time outdoors and help ensure our public spaces can be enjoyed by people of all ages.”

Helen Byrne, Chairperson of Dundalk Tidy Towns, highlighted the positive impact of the project on the local community.

“Dundalk Tidy Towns is delighted to have worked alongside Louth County Council on this project. The improvements at The Demesne have enhanced an important community space and will help ensure it remains an attractive and enjoyable place for residents and visitors for years to come. We are particularly pleased to see features that support both sustainability and accessibility.”

David Jones, Director of Services, Louth County Council, added: “This project shows what can be achieved through collaboration between local authorities, community groups and Government. Working closely with Dundalk Tidy Towns has enabled us to deliver improvements that respond to local needs and enhance a well-used public space. We are grateful for the support provided through the Community Recognition Fund, which has helped deliver valuable projects for communities across County Louth.”

The Demesne project is one of 11 projects currently being delivered across County Louth with support from the Community Recognition Fund.
