AN EXPERT has warned that an “aggressive” wave of mosquitoes is emerging in the UK this month.
Those who are susceptible to bites are urged to take precautions to prevent being bitten by the hungry insects.
According to bite prevention expert Howard Carter, these “mosquito nymphs” are known for biting “aggressively” as they head out in search of their “final blood meal before going into diapause”.
Diapause is a form of dormancy that animals, especially insects, enter into when the environmental conditions are particularly harsh as a means of survival.
During this period, mosquitoes also lay new eggs for next spring.
As a result, the biting insects will do whatever it takes to fuel up and get their final feed before the diapause period, meaning it’s likely they will be more aggressive than at earlier points in the year.

On the plus side, Carter has said that hopefully these mosquito nymphs will be the final wave of mosquitoes in the UK this year.
Those who find themselves susceptible to bites are urged to take necessary precautions to prevent any itchy sores this September.
Howard has issued the following advice to stop the aggressive wave of mosquitoes:
“Step 1: Prepare Your Skin – thoroughly cleanse to reduce your attractiveness to insects.

“Replace scented toiletries with citronella and citrus-aromatic products that insects don’t like, reducing your attraction before you even apply repellent.
“Step 2: Apply Repellent – apply a clinically proven insect repellent such as Incognito, which provides clinically proven protection from ticks, mosquitoes, midges and other insects and is up to 100% effective against mosquitoes for 4 hours – including species that carry Zika, dengue and chikungunya.
“Step 3: Layer With Extras – for extra protection layer up with accessories, such as bracelets, necklaces, moisturisers and deodorants containing Java citronella. Ideal for mosquito magnets, children or higher disease-risk destinations.
“Step 4: Ambient & Afterbite – protect your space inside and outside. Create an insect-repellent atmosphere around you with incense sticks, room refreshers or Citronella Oil containing Java citronella.
“Perfect for evenings outdoors, hotel rooms and shared spaces. And if you forget to apply your repellent, relieve bites and stings with Zap-Ease.”
