A woman is to be reunited with an urn containing the ashes of a “much-loved” family dog after the container was accidentally left on a train.
The small red urn was handed into lost property in Aberdeen when the LNER service travelling from London Kings Cross via Edinburgh arrived there in May.
British Transport Police (BTP) issued an appeal for information as it was thought the urn, which is held in the arms of a teddy bear toy, may have contained human remains.
BTP said that the owner of the urn has contacted them and they are working to reunite her with the remains of her pet.
A BTP spokesman said: “Following a recent appeal, we were contacted by a lady who had lost an urn on a train to Edinburgh in May.
“We are now arranging the safe return of the urn – which contains the ashes of a much-loved family dog – and the teddy bear, which the lady has owned since childhood.
“We thank everyone for sharing our appeal.”
