‘I’ll face up to whatever the consequences are,’ says Malcolm Byrne over drink-driving arrest

Fianna Fáil TD Malcolm Byrne has said he is “fully cooperating” with an investigation into his arrest following a drink-driving incident in the summer.

Mr Byrne was detected as driving two-and-a-half times over the legal alcohol limit when he was tested at a mandatory Garda checkpoint en route to Dublin Airport on May 28.

“I don’t have a court date as yet,” he told South East Radio this morning.

“There’s been all sorts of speculation. I’m fully cooperating with what is an ongoing investigation, and as I said, I’ll face up to whatever the the consequences are.”

He continued: “As I’ve always said, I respect the court process. I respect the Gardaí and the work that they have to do, and I’m fully cooperating with that. As soon as I’m in a position to be able to talk about it, I will. I will certainly talk to you about it.”
