Four accused sent forward for trial to Castlebar Circuit Criminal Court on October 5

Three men have been sent forward for trial over on a charge of assault causing serious bodily harm to another man in Castlebar last year.

Brothers Davitt and Rhys Neary of Shanvalley, Breaffy Woods, Castlebar, and Paul Dowding, of Frenchill, Castlebar, are accused of assault causing serious bodily harm to Padraig Weston at Tucker Street, Castlebar, on Saturday, August 23, 2025.

A fourth man, Oran Groarke, of Ballynew, Turlough Road, Castlebar, is accused of violent disorder arising from the same alleged incident.

The four were sent forward for trial by Judge Vincent Deane to the October 5 sitting of Castlebar Circuit Criminal after they were served with the book of evidence by Garda Evan Joyce before Wednesday’s sitting of Castlebar District Court.

The four accused had no legal representation due to the solicitors’ ongoing legal aid dispute.

All four accused were granted bail. Gardaí did not object to bail.

The Neary brothers told the court that they had a solicitor.

The court granted legal aid to Dowding and Groarke.
