From the hurling pitch to the farmyard, Limerick senior hurling manager John Kiely is set to lend his support when he meets people living with dementia at a unique community initiative.
Mr Kiely will attend the official launch of Social Farming for the Brain at Doon Social Farm, a new initiative from the Alzheimer Society of Ireland (ASI) in collaboration with Ballyhoura Rural Services (BRS).
The programme brings people living with young-onset and early-stage dementia together each week in an outdoor setting, where they take part in practical activities, spend time in nature and connect with others.
Mr Kiely will meet participants at Doon Social Farm from 12pm this Tuesday.
The initiative is to be officially launched by Minister of State for Older People and Housing, Kieran O’Donnell TD.
His visit will give the manager an opportunity to hear about the experiences of participants and learn more about the role the programme plays in supporting people living with dementia.
The launch will also be attended by people affected by dementia, local policymakers and community representatives.
