It was dry robes and flip flops galore as Greystones finally admitted to its creeping dry robe sub-culture and threw a great big ball in its honour – all for a good cause of course.
The event, which took place in the grounds of every dry rober’s favourite coffee house, Rise at the Cove, was also a fundraiser for Tiglin’s homeless services and rehabilitation programmes.
Guests on the night include Ukrainian Ambassador Larysa Gerasko and Senator Aubrey McCarthy, with US senators Mary Boren and Nikki Nice also embracing the vibe.
“What a night at our inaugural Dry Robe Ball,” the organisers said, after a superb evening of food, DJs, camaraderie and plenty of Greystonians decked out in their favourite clobber.
“The rain tried to play spoilsport for the first hour, but it didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. Once the skies cleared, everyone got into the swing of it and had so much fun.
“A huge thank you to everyone who braved the elements and came to the ball. We hope this is the start of an amazing new summer tradition,” they added.
Tiglin does incredible work across Wicklow and elsewhere in Leinster, and the setup in the heart of Greystones plays a massive part in helping people get back on their feet.
The organisation runs Carraig Eden, home of Rise at the Cove, and Coolnagreina, which focus on providing safe, transitional housing and recovery programmes.
Instead of just offering a temporary stop, these places give people who have come through addiction or homelessness the tools to look at community employment or further education.
