The Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund supports urban regeneration projects aimed at enhancing urban spaces in towns and cities across Ireland
Funding close to €30m has been allocated to projects in Carlow and Kilkenny under the new Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund.
The fund has replaced the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF), and supports urban regeneration projects and the development of sustainable communities through the provision of part-funding for applicant-led projects.
Eight projects across Carlow and Kilkenny have been selected to share in the funding which amounts to €29.7m.
This announcement of funding for Carlow and Kilkenny comes as part of a €409m pot, shared across every local authority in the country.
The selected Carlow and Kilkenny projects are:
Carlow Kilkenny TD Peter ‘Chap’ Cleere outlined how crucial this funding will be for the constituency.
“The Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund will continue to build on the success of the URDF in tackling regeneration,” he said. “This tranche of funding will be critical to investing in our constituency to ensure we have a vibrant and attractive constituency for people who live and visit Carlow and Kilkenny.
“This funding will help enhance our urban spaces in our towns and city so that people can meet up socially, feel safe and be somewhere they can be proud of.”
Deputy Cleere said he is looking forward to the progression of the projects from both local authorities so that regeneration in Carlow and Kilkenny can evolve as quickly as possible.
“I look forward to seeing transformative regeneration across our constituency thanks to this funding,” he said. “Attention now turns towards the local authorities to deliver these projects.
“I have no doubt both Kilkenny and Carlow County Councils will work extremely hard to deliver these fantastic projects that will help our towns and city across the constituency be a more attractive place for people to live and work.”
