Canadian Tire Corp. Ltd. has officially launched its loyalty partnership with Tim Hortons which would let customers of both Canadian brands rack up points by linking their rewards cards.

The company said the linked loyalty partnership will help members of both Canadian Tire’s Triangle Rewards and Tim Horton’s Tims Rewards get more value from their purchases.

By linking their accounts from both programs, Canadians can earn up to five per cent in points, known as Canadian Tire Money, on their eligible Tims purchases, alongside the points they already earn at the coffee chain.

“The Triangle Rewards and Tims Rewards partnership is built around one of the country’s most familiar routines: a Tims run,” Darryl Jenkins, executive vice-president and chief development officer of Canadian Tire, said in a press release.

Jenkins said partnering with Tim Hortons will give Canadians an easy way to earn Canadian Tire Money. He said this will further expand Canadian Tire’s Triangle Rewards program by rewarding members in more places, more often.

The program was first announced a year ago as Canadian Tire positions itself as an even more Canadian retailer.

“It’s exciting that Tims guests can now also earn Canadian Tire Money on their Tims runs, which can be redeemed at other iconic Canadian banners – like Canadian Tire, SportChek, Mark’s and more,” said Hope Bagozzi, chief marketing officer for Tim Hortons. Those Canadian Tire banners, as well as Party City and PartSource, Hockey Experts, Sports Experts and Atmosphere, and Pro Hockey Life, are all under Triangle Rewards loyalty program.

Tim Hortons is the fourth marquee Canadian brand to partner with Canadian Tire’s Triangle Rewards program. Petro-Canada, Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) and WestJet Airlines Ltd. are already part of the loyalty program.

Canadian Tire Money can only be redeemed at Canadian Tire and its banners, while Tims Rewards points can only be redeemed at participating Tim Hortons restaurants.
