Zoella’s favourite £9.99 foundation has had a makeover – and it gave me the ultimate glowy base

I’VE always been totally complexion-obsessed. From budget buys to luxury splurges, my vanity is forever crammed with bottles of the latest formulas.

So when Rimmel announced that its iconic Match Perfection Foundation has had a major revamp, I ran to the high street to give it a go.

Choosing the right shade is the single most important step when buying a new foundation – a flawless base sets the tone for your entire look.

Back in the day, I was a huge fan of Zoella – who famously adored this foundation – but I actually gave up on it years ago because I could never get a good match for my cool-toned skin.

Safe to say those days are officially over.

The updated version of the foundation introduces Rimmel’s new Smart-Tone technology and clear undertone markers, meaning that finding my perfect shade was a complete doddle.

How much is it? It’s an absolute bargain at just £9.99 – prices for a foundation of this quality don’t get much better.

Who’s it best for? Anyone with normal/combination skin, although the extra hydration is great if you dry out in the cold weather.

What we loved: Its easy shade navigation, smooth blendability, buildable coverage and glowy finish!

What we didn’t: It’s perhaps a little too hydrating for those with oily skin.

I ordered the shade Rose Ivory straight off Rimmel’s online guide, with no awkward in-store shade matching required.

Now packed with Aloe Vera, the updated formula gave my skin a juicy burst of hydration (a total lifesaver as the weather cools down and dries out my skin) while blurring my pores and giving me a healthy, lit-from-within glow.

My favourite feature of the new foundation is that it’s completely mistake-proof – reportedly thanks to the new Smart Tone tech, which adapts to both skin tone and undertone.

It’s a total game-changer for me as a visually impaired person who can’t always catch unblended edges or patchy spots.

I felt extremely nostalgic applying my first pump, and buffing it in using my go-to REFY Duo Brush, it blended like an absolute dream.

Weightless, smooth and non-cakey, it melts into the skin rather than sitting on top.

I’m not usually fussed about too much coverage, which is why I love that its signature buildable formula hasn’t changed. It effortlessly flexes from a light skin-tint finish to a higher-coverage look depending on your vibe.

The base also paired well with my other staples, blending easily with my favourite Charlotte Tilbury cream bronzer and Laura Mercier Translucent Powder for a gorgeous base that lasts all day.

The Verdict

Rimmel’s Match Perfection is now my go-to everyday foundation.

It’s easy to apply, blurs pores and keeps my skin hydrated all day long.

I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable, buildable foundation – but be careful if you’re prone to oily skin!
