There was disruption in Wexford town centre on Monday morning, as the Fire Service were called upon to deal with an oil spill which stretched nearly the entire length of North Main Street.
A bin lorry suffered a mechanical issue and spilled oil from the junction with George’s Street, right up through the Bull Ring before eventually coming to a stop at the junction with Rowe Street, outside Cappucinos.
With the surface of the pedestrianised street left incredibly slippy under foot, the assistance of the Fire Service was called for, and they began the laborious task of hosing down the street and using scrubbing brushes to ensure the surface was made safe again.
Two units from Wexford Fire Service responded to the call and a hydraulic repair service was also called upon in a bid to get the bin lorry moving once again from the junction of Rowe Street.
A fire service spokesperson estimated that they should be clear of the scene shortly.
