Last Saturday the eagerly awaited Dromiskin 5K took place in what has become a big fixture on the athletics calendar.
The weather helped draw a large crowd of spectators who were spread right throughout the route while over 800 athletes took to the roads of Dromiskin village. Those that came out to watch were treated to some great racing and all enjoyed a fantastic spread of food afterwards, something that this race has become famous for.
The Senior Men’s race saw Drogheda and District AC taking all three podium places with Tadgh Donnelly winning in a time of 14:31 closely followed by club mate Aaron Hanlon in a time of 14:54. The battle for third went right to the line with Drogheda and District’s Sergii Raschupkin edging out Candour AC athlete Jimmy Sloane in a time of 15:34.
The three Drogheda and District athletes, along with Colin Dyas who finished fifth, in a time of 15:53, took home the winning men’s team prize.
The Women’s race was also won by a Louth athlete with Sinead McDonald of Glenmore AC first home in a time of 17:33. In second was Catherine O’Connor of East Down AC in 18 minutes flat, with Cheryl Campbell third in 18:15.
The winning women’s team was the host club St Peter’s AC with Niamh Brady, Abbie Sheridan, Rlls Murphy and Laura Duff. The Under 20 Women’s race was won by Lily Rogers of Dundalk St Gerards with Carrick Aces Aine Smith taking second.
The Men’s U20 race was won by Matthew Sutton of Newcastle AC with Jack Garvey of Dunleer AC in second. The first Over 40 woman home was Laura McDonnell of Raheny Shamrocks with Mairead Hogan of Dunboyne in second.
The Women’s Over 50 race was won by Yasmin Canning of Drogheda and District with Emma Hand in second. The Men’s Over 50s was won by Declan Toal of North East Runners with Conor Curran of North Belfast Harriers in second. The first Over 60 woman was Patrica Mulholland with her club mate Margaret Finley in second place. The first Over 60 man was Gerry O’Connell of Glenmore AC with Jim Gonnelly of North East Runners in second.
