Every self-respecting McDonald’s fan will know the joy of peeling off a Monopoly sticker, and discovering you’ve landed some free fries.
The fast food chain’s version of the classic board game has been a fixture of the Maccie’s calendar since it launched in 2015 (apart from a hiatus in 2020, due to the pandemic).
But while the game is usually launched around autumn, this year, fans are set to be disappointed, as McDonald’s have confirmed there will be no Monopoly for 2026.
Pause for tears.
A McDonald’s spokesperson told Metro: ‘We’re always looking for new ways to surprise and delight our customers, and while Monopoly won’t feature in 2026, we’ll continue listening closely to what they enjoy most as we shape future promotions.’
Maccie’s diehards certainly made their feelings known online.
On TikTok, one user wrote: ‘I’ve not been this disappointed since X Factor was cancelled,’ while another said: ‘I’m in shock.’
Others revealed they were ‘devastated,’ ‘fuming’ and would ‘refuse to acknowledge it,’ while some even threated a boycott.
Customers wil be missing out on some pretty impressive prizes too.
Last year, the list included £100,000 cash, a £2,000 Jet2Holiday, £200 train credit with TrainPal, an LG OLED TV from Currys, a Merlin annual pass for four, a £100 Virgin Experience Day, cinema tickets, McDonald’s merchandise, Moonpig flowers, JustPark credit, instant win food and so much more.
It’s not clear whether this is a temporary axe, or if McDonald’s has officially said goodbye to Monopoly. Only time will tell.
Before you get too heartbroken though, there is an alternative.
Earlier this year, McDonald’s launched CARDS, which offered customers the chance to collect 24 limited-edition cards, available in CARDS Meals.

Each card features an iconic McDonald’s character, such as Ronald or Grimace, and come in a pack of four, and each pack includes a card that earns customers a selected free food item.
And, McDonald’s said the other cards will also provide an opportunity to win additional prizes when you collect in the app.
The spokesperson continued: ‘We know how much our customers love our promotions, from the brand-new launch of CARDS in March, to our first-ever XBOX partnership as part of the Side Missions launch.’
Monopoly isn’t the only McDonald’s fixture we’ve said goodbye to this year.
The food giant removed it’s Wrap of the Day deal, which had been running for 15 years, in favour of Wrap in the App in July.
We also said goodbye to to all five Grilled Chicken options in April, and Mini McFlurries were axed from the delivery menu.
What other promotions can McDonald’s fans look forward to?
From Tuesday, September 8 until Wednesday, September 30, McDonald’s app users can claim one free regular McCafé coffee every week – meaning customers could get up to four free coffees during the month.
The offer is available on selected drinks including:
