A BBC TV chef has been criticised for serving up an iconic British dish for over £60.
The price has been bashed online as being “far too expensive” and “a joke”.
Those wishing for a taste of the nation’s favourite dish at Tom Kerridge‘s The Hand & Flowers can expect to part with more than £60 a portion, according to the Mail.
Located in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, the up-scale fish and chip meal is available on the Saturday or Sunday lunch menus – costing around £95 for two courses.
Accounting for the starter being the cheaper option of the two, The Hand & Flowers’ fish and chips works out to cost around £60.
This places the celebrity chef’s iteration a staggering six times more expensive than the national average – which is currently hovering around £10.29.

The dish does come with a side of Caviar Tartare Sauce and Minted Pea Purée, however, according to one report – it features just 17 chips.
Described as a “pub classic – but elevated”, some disappointed customers on Tripadvisor wrote the dish was “pretty ordinary”, “too expensive for what it is” and another claimed they had paid “£68 for fish and chips”.
However, one happy customer said: “The fish and chips was excellently cooked. The fish was super fresh and the batter was superb, light and crispy with a delicious flavour.”
But this is not the first time the celebrity has come under fire for the cost of his fish and chips – in 2023, it was revealed the chef had been charging £37 for the staple at his Harrods eatery, Kerridge’s Fish & Chips.

Previously hinting at the controversy on Instagram, Kerridge wrote: “I know my Fish & Chips are always a hot topic and in my opinion, you absolutely can’t beat a good fish and chippy tea.”
Yet, angered users continued to dub the dish a “shameless rip- off”, with one commenting: “Are you aving a laff?!”.
Another said: “Blimey this price tag seems a bit fishy.”
Meanwhile, one cheeky user joked: “Does it still come with 9 fries? I hope so because for the love of god, I couldn’t eat 10!”
Despite this, the chef has seen plenty of success, currently owning six pubs and restaurants across the South East and in London, with three Michelin stars.
