A Cavan based construction firm has seen its plans for a major multi-million euro development with the promise of over 100 new houses and a purpose built crèche in the county town be put on ice.
Lisdaran Developments Ltd were granted planning approval at the end of July for the proposed construction of 109 homes at a site in the townland of Lisdaran and just off the town’s Loreto Road.
Sixty-five of those have been designed to take the shape of residences consisting of 23 two bedroom homes, 26 larger three-bedroom houses alongside an additional 16 four bedroom finishes.
The plans likewise provided for 44 duplex apartments, 36 of which were earmarked to be equally divided between two and three bedroom homes. The proposed development also comprises eight smaller one-bedroom apartments.
All 44 apartments were designed to range from two to three storeys in height while the proposed crèche was to be set across two storeys with parking for both cars and bicycles.
In keeping with the country’s broader climate action targets, Lisdaran Development chiefs vowed to provide electric vehicle charging points for residents “throughout the site”.
And, in a bid to factor in the likely increased flow of traffic accessing the development, planning consultants for Lisdaran Developments have included plans to upgrade a portion of the Loreto Road by introducing a right turning lane for prospective new homeowners and residents to the area.
Equally, plans were drawn up for communal and public open spaces which will, provided planning is granted, entail “formal play areas” with public lighting similarly included.
Cavan County Council’s planning department approved the plans subject to 56 conditions.
Those plans, however, have been stalled, at least temporarily, following an appeal which was lodged with the State’s independent planning authority in recent days.
A final decision on whether the development will ultimately be allowed to proceed is not expected to be made before December 8.
