The meeting between President Catherine Connolly and US President Donald Trump has ended.
US President Donald Trump shook hands with Ms Connolly as he left Áras an Uachtaráin, but paused as he walked towards his car to take two questions that were shouted across the courtyard by the assembled media.
One question from an American journalist related to the price of home heating oil, though Mr Trump’s response was difficult to make out due to the sound of the waiting vehicles and his distance from the microphones. He responded to both questions briefly with assurances around fluctuating prices before entering his armoured Cadillac car and beginning the short trip to Farmleigh House.

President Trump is making his way make to Farmleigh House for a courtesy call with Taoiseach Micheál Martin.
After that he will head to the US Ambassador’s residence where he is expected to make a speech.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin and his wife Mary have arrived at Farmleigh where President Trump is expected in the next short while.
And as soon as he’s out he’s back indoors. Donald Trump has not yet arrived, but the rain has.

Will there be any feathers ruffled in Áras an Uachtaráin?
The main part of Donald Trump’s visit is being taken up with the sort of pomp and ceremony he enjoys – with a military guard of honour and both national anthems taking up around twenty minutes.
That will be followed by a ten-minute private discussion with President Catherine Connolly – in private and behind closed doors.
She famously protested at his last visit, in 2019, when she was an Independent TD for Galway West. The parties of the left who supported her presidential campaign have made it clear over the past week that they expect to her to live true to her promise of speaking truth to power.
The reality might fall somewhere in between – with her advocating for international law, and opposing the atrocities of war – in a far more coded, diplomatic language.
About an hour after the meeting she will issue a statement outlining what was discussed. It will be closely watched. What Donald Trump makes of the encounter will be another matter entirely.

Tight security around and above Dublin’s Phoenix Park as the presidents meet
A Garda helicopter is flying above the Phoenix Park as the two presidents meet. The air support unit is monitoring the event and is a key part of today’s major security operation. Gardaí have also deployed anti-drone technology in the capital.

President Connolly and Donald Trump escorted to the state drawing room for a courtesy call
Mr Trump has inspected the guard of honour outside Áras an Uachtaráin.
Both the US and Irish national anthems were played as he stood at the base of the red carpet with his hand in a salute.
Ms Connolly stood on the doorstep of the Áras as he did so. She introduced him to the Irish delegation before greeting the US delegation and members of Mr Trump’s family.
Both Mr Trump and Ms Connolly have now re-entered the Áras.
